Functionality

Material

Ottobock fabricates finger and partial hand prostheses using what is known as medical grade silicone. This silicone material has been tested for skin friendliness and is suitable for medical applications. The high-quality silicone material that is used covers all characteristics of an optimum fitting: functionality, aesthetics and comfort.

Handling

The sensitive residual limb is securely protected by the individual socket design. Using the prosthesis is very straightforward: It can be put on and taken off easily. We recommend using Ottobock ProComfort gel (633S2) to assist with putting on the prosthesis. Thanks to the thin socket edges, the freedom of movement of the adjacent fingers is not impaired and optimum wearer comfort is assured. At the same time, the prosthesis is well secured and firmly held on the residual limb by the vacuum.

Care instructions

The high-quality silicone material that is used covers all characteristics of an optimum fitting: functionality, aesthetics and comfort. Temperature and UV resistance are just some of the benefits of the silicone material. Silicone prostheses are also easy to care for and very straightforward to clean. After use, they should be cleaned on the outside daily with water and pH-neutral soap. Permanent stains do not stand a chance if the care instructions are followed. Silicone also stands out for its thin socket brims, good connection with the residual limb and excellent skin compatibility.

What is done to ensure that my prosthesis fits comfortably?

In order to ensure optimum functionality and fit, a custom trial prosthesis is fabricated which you can test for four weeks in your everyday life.
Will my silicone prosthesis look exactly the same as my other hand?

A very exact replica of your hand can be created using silicone. However, the nuances of human skin are always changing – and no prosthesis is capable of that yet.
